Dog Luxury from a Dog's Point of View!
By Stephanie Hetu
Being born in the lap of dog luxury has a few drawbacks. I know, you are asking how luxury could be anything but the best? How could there be any drawbacks?
Well, I will tell you. But first, let me explain the concept of dog luxury as I see it. Of course, food is number one on my list. Next, bowls of fresh cool water must be put in convenient places and frequently refilled. Squeaky toys and Frisbees are very important and must be available at all times along with my human to throw them for me until I decide I want to take a break.
Another dog luxury I prefer is a Four Poster queen-sized bed with a medium soft mattress. The four hundred count percale sheets feel the best to me. I also prefer the softer pillows. They are easier to mold into a nest if I decide that is how I want to sleep at any particular time. The various dog beds are really nice, but nothing beats climbing into bed with my human and snuggling up to her.
My human buys only the best and most expensive dog food for me. It is quite good, but not nearly as good as, shall we say, baked chicken or a nice thick steak. So, I think a part of dog luxury should include getting to eat whatever my human eats and not what the Veterinarian says I should have! This is considered a drawback!
Oh, yes. I am not allowed to ride in the car with my head hanging out of the window. The human says it is too dangerous. The flying insects that splat on the windshield could miss it and hit me in the eye. This could seriously damage my eye or blind me. I miss the dog luxury thrill of the wind whipping my ears back and my tongue hanging out as I slobber on the side of the car. A drawback!
But wait! I am of the dog luxury class! I must now try to communicate to my human the need for doggy driving goggles. This way I could hang out of the car window for as long as I wish. And then I could remove one of the drawbacks from my list.
I don't think I have mentioned the B word! The BATH is the single most important drawback that comes from living with a human. The human seems to consider bathing a dog luxury and very important. I don't know why they can't just leave it at brushing fur. Oh well, one more bath, one more lovely mud patch to roll in!
