Safe Toys for Dogs

All dogs love to chew on their favorite toy or bone. The following are recommended as safe toys for dogs:

  • Nylabones (the Knot): most recommended for busy chewers
  • Hard rubber balls and tennis balls: for playtime
  • Treat toys (the Kong): hide his favorite treat inside
  • The Galileo bone: for tough chewers
  • Vinyl and latex toys: for smaller dogs
  • Rope toys and hard rubber bones: for average chewing

When choosing a toy for your dog, avoid the following:

  • Wooden toys (which may splinter)
  • Chicken and turkey bones, pork bones, fish bones and certain beef bones which may splinter and become a choking hazard
  • Clothing
  • Squeaky toys
  • Baby toys or stuffed animals
  • Balls which are too small
  • Rawhide (with supervision)
  • A shoe or slipper

There are many household items that can be dangerous to your dog. Keep the following items off the floor:

  • Plants
  • Buttons
  • Strings
  • Ribbon
  • Rubber bands
  • Socks
  • Pantyhose
  • Children's toys
  • Pencils or pens
  • Markers
  • Loose wires

Be smart and educate yourself on which are the safe toys for dogs in order to keep your dog out of harm's way.
