Snake
Why You Should Never Feed a Snake Live Food -- When it comes to feeding your snake, you need to stick to pre-killed food. There are a lot of reasons that people prefer to give their snakes live food. One of the most common is they feel that a snake in its natural habitat would eat live food so in captivity they should be given live food as well. I used to agree with them. However, it only took one incident for me to change my mind.
Anaconda Snake Myth: Everything Revealed -- Anaconda snakes extract similar responses from most of us, a response smeared by hatred, fear and probably revulsion. The image of this serpent that we carry in our mind is that of a creature that looks vile and is widely known to be monstrous.
Large Snakes: Can They Make Wonderful Pets? -- Pythons and Boas are both of the Family Boidae. Boas are known for their placid temperament, which make them ideal as pets. Contrary to what one might think, pythons are gentler and easier to maintain than rats.
Burmese Pythons -- Burmese pythons are increasingly common as exotic pets, but there are some things to keep in mind about their care.
Sexing Snakes -- The first method is to visually see a difference in tail size and structure. Males have two hemipenes which are stored next to each other at the base of the tail. Each hemipene is tucked into its own ‘pocket’.
What to Look for When Buying a Snake -- The first and foremost ingredient to choosing the right snake is the health of the animal. Once that is out the way, a number of other elements come into the equation. Species, age, temperament, colour, pattern, sex, feeding habits and price are all points to think about when looking for a snake.
Australian Water Python Care (Katrinus Fuscus) -- Water pythons are a very hardy snake and take readily to captivity. They are usually eager feeders and will take to defrost rodents with little problem. Some wild caught or newly hatched specimens may need a little enticement with bird or reptile scenting methods, but this is not often an issue.
Enriching Your Snake's Life -- Unfortunately, many snake keepers do not actually think about their snakes’ psychological issues. It is well known within the hobby that a vast number of snake species are fairly ‘lazy’ creatures, perhaps only venturing out of their hide for food, water, or a mate.
Green Tree Python or Chondro Python Care (Morelia viridis) -- Green Tree Pythons are the dream of many reptile hobbyists. They are one of the most stunning species of snake known to the pet trade; a real gem of the rainforest. Green Tree Pythons are arboreal (tree dwelling) and nocturnal (active at night), making this species incredibly difficult to find in the wild and highly valuable.
Problematic Snake Feeding -- Unfortunately, feeding any snake is not always as simple as putting a mouse in the tank to find it gone the next morning. Occasionally the snake will refuse to feed and it may be tricky to get going again. There are all sorts of feeding hints and tips; however there is always a reason why a snake is not eating.
