Do it Yourself Pet Vaccines

By Barbara Lombardi

Most vaccines may be given just below the skin. The best and least sensitive area is the area on the back of the neck. You have seen cub mothers pick up their pups from this same place.

Simply lift the skin as if you were "pinching an inch" it forms a triangle in the skin. Inject right into the center of the triangle.

Steps to follow for MIXING THE VACCINE

  • Tighten the needle on the syringe and insert it into the liquid vial. Pull back the syringe and withdraw the liquid.
  • Inject the liquid into the vial that contains the powdered portion of the vaccine.
  • Remove the syringe and shake the vial mixing the solution thoroughly.
  • Insert the needle back into the vial and withdraw all the liquid.
  • Dispose of the syringe after use. Do not re-use.
